Heavenly Father,

We just had a new grandbaby born into our lives!! It’s so exciting! We’re all in love with this tiny little person! Now that he’s here, we can’t imagine life without him. His parents’ lives will never be the same again!! Yet it took a lot of intense labor to get him here! I felt so bad for my daughter-in-law who went through so much as she birthed him. It was a very difficult delivery (on those of us standing by as well!) Yet it was all worth it to hold that new life in our hands and bask in the miracle! He didn’t even exist 9 months ago! We didn’t have a clue we could all love him so much!

We had a good friend dying that same day. He was laboring as well. Friends and family were standing around supporting him also. Yet just like with my daughter-in-law, others can cheer you on…but some things you have to go through by yourself. We received a text at the exact time the baby was born that our friend had just passed through the canal of this life into the next! He, too, has new life to live! I’ve often thought that trying to explain how much someone is going to enjoy heaven is like trying to tell an unborn baby how much he’s going to like earth. We can speak to the mom’s belly and say, “You’re gonna love it here- ice cream, swimming, snowflakes on your tongue…!” But that baby is going to dig his feet in and say, “No thanks! I like it right here in Mommy’s womb! It’s warm and cozy and I have everything I need!” In a lot of ways, we don’t want to leave our comfy home of this world to experience the marvels of heaven!

Come to think of it, Lord, we don’t just labor during birth or dying. There is often a laboring to surrender our lives to You and receive eternal life through Jesus Christ. We also have to labor through a lot of trials and challenges but if we will just hold Your hand and breathe- we will find more abundant life at the end of the pain and struggle. Once we have the new life, we can barely recall the pain! Thank You, Lord, for being our labor partner. Most of all, thank You for the new life!

“A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born, she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world, So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.” John 16:21-22

“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these things are the beginning of birth pains.” Matthew 24:6-8

“Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when His glory is revealed.” 1 Peter 4:12-13

Heavenly Father,

We all waited with baited breath to hear the very first sermon our new preacher gave Sunday.  He couldn’t have chosen a better subject…it was about Love! His first time to preach as our minister was to remind us how important it is to love You, Lord…and to love people! That pretty much sums up our lives with You! After all, those are the two greatest commandments. If we spend our whole entire lives doing those two things, we will be living an abundant Christ-filled life! Not only will we be rich beyond measure; we will be able to bless others beyond what we could possibly do on our own.

Before we can truly love You, Lord, we have to begin to realize how much You love us. All love flows freely from You!! And I believe we will be discovering more of Your love for all eternity for there is no top or bottom or sides to Your love! It’s too good to be true that You love me despite all my flaws, weaknesses, mistakes and sin. You love me-  in spite of them. You love me so much that You gave Jesus to pay the cost of my sin, to make me holy-  so I could live with You forever! It’s so good to be true that it is a stumbling block for us. We just have to believe and accept that You love us and want us with You! It is only once we live in Your love that we can truly start loving You back! Every day, I love You more because I find so much more to love…and because You love me more than I could ever possibly love You!

There’s so much love that I can truly love others with the overflow of Your love! It never runs out or gets old. There are so many people around me who need love just as much as I do! You love me so I can share it…not hoard it. The more I share and love others, the more love You flood me with!  It’s crazy! Because Your love causes me to love others who are just as undeserving as me.  Yet Your love lives in me and gets in my heart and soul… and even my eyes. You cause me to see others how You see them…and I find myself loving them! It’s not a strings-attached-love like the world shows. It is an all-out, love-no-matter-what kind of love that comes from You! I’m so glad our new preacher had his first words be about love! I’m pretty sure that will be his last words and all the words in between! That’s what it’s all about! That’s why Jesus is the Word; the beginning and the end! He is Love poured out from You!

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”    John 13:34-35

“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”   1 John 3:1

“This is love; not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us.”  1 John 4:10-12
