Awesome Holy Father,

My granddaughter and I were driving on the highway next to an Air Force base when a gigantic AWAC plane was getting ready to land right over us. We saw it coming and knew it was flying straight towards us. It felt like the landing gear almost clipped the top of our van. The power of the huge engines reverberated through our whole vehicle and our bodies. We both looked at each other fully aware of the fearsome power that aircraft had. It could have easily wiped us out! For several miles on our journey afterward, my granddaughter and I discussed the design and purpose of the massive airplane. They fly high in the sky and keep constant watch with high-tech equipment for threats. It’s radar system with dedicated and highly trained personnel watch over our safety and welfare. It gave me another glimpse of You and Your care for us, Lord!

There are a few times in my life where You have shown me a peek at Your glory…and it has shaken my very spirit to the core. You kind of tilt Yourself so I get a tiny sample of Your fearsome power and mighty majesty. My spirit can scarcely take in Your indescribable strength. I am shaken to think of who You really are in all Your glory. You who spoke… and galaxies were birthed; the stars were set in place; mountains pushed up from the center of the earth; oceans were tamed; molecules spilt; and You tenderly breathed life into dust to form man into Your own image. You have all power and authority over all that there is. No armies can march, no kingdoms prevail, not even death can reign unless You give it permission to accomplish Your great purposes. No one can look upon You and live. You are more powerful than anything else we can comprehend or create…and yet You gently watch over us.

Most of the time, I can go about my daily life and not be shaken by Your power because You tenderly hold back to what I can withstand. Yet, even when I cannot see You or feel You, I know You are on constant watch over me. You never sleep or grow weary of protecting, guarding, guiding, warning, correcting and singing over me. There is not one thing that goes unnoticed by You and yet You loved me enough to send Jesus to save me. You never leave me alone to face this life. You are always with me. I always want to stay under the shadow of Your wings, Lord! Help me worship, love, obey and live with You at the very center of my life. Not only do You fly high above me, but You sent Your Spirit to live within me. That’s a crazy power that shakes up my world and brings heaven to earth!

“How priceless is Your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of Your wings.” Psalm 36:7

“See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and His arm rules for Him. See, His reward is with Him, and His recompense accompanies Him. He tends His flock like a shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those who have young.”  Isaiah 40:10-11

“The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.”  Psalm 29:3-4

Father, You are awesome in power yet tender in mercy with me by…

Heavenly Father,

Not long ago, my foster grandchild, started calling his foster parents by name instead of “Mom and Dad” like he’d been doing for a long time. My son lovingly sat down with him and they discussed exactly what a mom and dad do (providing food, love, a home, protection, clothes, care, comfort, attention…). It was like he didn’t really know what a dad or mom did. Afterward, this sweet boy started calling them “Mom and Dad” again. That night as he prayed, he thanked You for his mom and dad – and for their son! He realized that true role models are not always from birth.

As Father’s Day draws near, my mind is on the special gift of dads in our lives…whatever form that takes. Many of my fellow teachers are helping their kids prepare Father’s Day gifts. It can get a little tricky when not everyone has a daddy involved in their lives. Everyone had to have some kind of birth dad- for better or worse. Unfortunately, some end up not involved in a child’s life due to death or neglect or some other reason. But almost everyone is blessed with a man in their life who makes an eternal impact.

Father, I’ve been extra blessed to have an incredible dad who lived out his beautiful faith in You day in and day out before my eyes. He now cheers me on from heaven! I’ve been blessed to have the daddy of my children, who also waits in heaven, continue to impact our children and grandchildren (who never got to meet him yet). My children (by birth and marriage) have been blessed more than they know by a strong loving dad who stepped up to love, pray and cook for, help, and even invests in the lives of their children as Grandpap! Another indescribable blessing is to see the dads our children have become to their kids- raising them up to be amazing people! There are men all around: foster dads, stepdads, teachers, ministers, coaches, uncles, grandfathers, neighbors, bosses…who You have put in place in children’s lives to somehow fill a role of a dad figure to young men and women who need to know what a real dad looks like. Some kids have no idea. No matter what, we all have You, our Heavenly Father, who encompasses more than we can describe or imagine of what a true Father is. To the greatest Father of all, I love You, Lord…and thank You for all the wonderful pictures of You I see in those around me.

“Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead bring them up in training and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4

“Sing to God, sing praise to His name, extol Him who rides on the clouds- His name is the Lord- and rejoice before Him. A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families…”  Psalm 68:4-6a

“‘I will be a Father to you, and you will be My sons and daughters,’ says the Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:18

Prayer Peek & Prompt-

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my dad by….

Heavenly Father,

I miss my Wednesday night Forever Sisters! For years, we opened up our Bible study with reports of ways we had seen You work during the week, Lord. I still recall the panic on certain faces as the testimonies were shared around the group and their turn was approaching. New people didn’t know what to do or say so we let them off easy at first. Girls who were regulars came to love sharing what they had seen! In fact, if they had to miss or on rare occasions when we skipped a week, they couldn’t wait to text or Facebook everyone with what they had seen You do! Some of these were the very same ones who dreaded speaking at first! Our group of sisters-in-Christ prayed together, cried together, rejoiced together, studied Your word together and simply loved one another. I think one of the favorite parts was this sharing of reports of what You were doing in everyone’s daily lives.

Because they knew they were going to need to report something, they began to look for ways You were at work. Some were better than others at seeing You all around. Sometimes it would be as simple as You helping find a set of keys or as impressive as seeing a former Satan worshipper that we had been praying for give their life to You (and then being baptized at our church). Seeing and hearing of all the things we each saw You do during the week (over months or even years) built our faith in You even more. If one came feeling weak or defeated, these reports renewed their faith. We shared in many victories and answered prayers…because we were looking!

Father, there are so many things we miss, because we are not looking. I believe and hope that this habit of watching for You at work continues in the lives of those I no longer meet with every week. I recall one of the moms telling how she had started the nightly habit of having her kids tell what they are thankful for or how they had seen You work. Maybe each of those sisters have started sharing with others how they see You at work in their daily lives! It’s time for me to start with a new group. They may be shy at first…but I know what happens when we open our eyes and start looking for You! We find You…everywhere we go!

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”   Hebrews 11:6

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparable great power for us who believe.”  Ephesians 1:18-19

Prayer Prompt-

Father, open my eyes and help me see….

Heavenly Father,

The more time marches on in my life, the more aware I am of its brevity. When I was a young girl, time seemed to move incredibly slow…especially when waiting on birthdays or some special occasion that seemed to never arrive. Now, time seems to pass at the speed of light. When did my children turn into these incredible grown-ups with children of their own? There seems no way to slow this time thing down! How many times have I heard people say there aren’t enough hours in the day? At the end of the day, I sometimes ask where that day went? I don’t seem to get accomplished what I hoped to on certain days. Yet at the same time, I have learned to slow down and trust that You have allotted me exactly enough time each day to accomplish what You want me to.

Our time is definitely limited here on earth. No one knows when our last hour will be. I am increasingly aware that I need to use my time wisely. There is only so much of it left. How am I investing it? The world is always pulling on me to spend all my time and resources on things for my own comfort, entertainment, beauty, fame…anything to build up my own little kingdom. Yet You call me to be willing to give up my life, my time, my resources to expand Your kingdom which is nothing at all like a worldly kingdom. You rule with the most incredible unselfish love. You share all Your time and resources with us. We are only limited by our own faith in You.

I have to be extra flexible at work. My sweet friend who makes up the scheduling laughs with me every week as my schedule changes every day- sometimes more than once in a day. We know it’s really God’s schedule the perfect way it always works out. Lord, help me be ready, willing and flexible to use my time, resources and talents for Your purpose. Help me invest time with You so I will know Your voice and will be filled with You. Let me be ready and willing to speak to someone, hug someone, pray with someone, encourage someone, help someone when You call for a change of what I have scheduled. Let me invest my love, heart, time, life in loving You and others, Lord! That’s the only thing that will live past the end of time for all eternity. Remind me I’m on Your schedule!

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13

“If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Me will find it. What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?”   Matthew 16:24-26

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”  Matthew 6:33

Prayer Prompt-

Father, help me be willing to be on Your schedule by….

Heavenly Father,

Not quite two weeks ago, we gave our daughter away in marriage. We’ve watched her go through a lot in her life, including some not-so-great relationships. We were more than thrilled to see her in this relationship with such a good man. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her look so happy than she looked walking down the aisle after joining her life with her husband’s. They are now one in my eyes- separate but unique people forever bonded by their commitment to one another. Their marriage will not be a fairy tale. There will still be more than their share of trials and obstacles to overcome. But she will not have to face them alone. She now has one who walks with her, who will help provide, protect, encourage, forgive, laugh and cry with her. Hopefully, he knows that she will respect, honor, enjoy and stay with him. Whatever may come, they have each other and never have to be alone again.

Being in love and committed to Jesus changes everything even more. Our union with Him is even a greater guarantee we will never be alone. When we submit our lives to You, Lord, and accept Your loving commitment to us, there is no greater joy! Our step becomes lighter; our joy cannot be hidden; our love shines out in all that we do. Jesus showed us Your love by laying down His life for us while we were far from perfect. He was willing to die for us as we were- not expecting us to “get ourselves together first.” He knew full-well who He was dying for better than we know ourselves. We can clean ourselves up pretty good, but there is nothing hidden from Your eyes, Lord. And You still want us to live with You forever!

I don’t fully understand it…but when You see me with Jesus, You see us as one. You see me in pure white, holy and clean- because I’m forever bonded with Your Son Jesus Christ. I’ve already faced many trials and valleys since joining with Jesus, but there has been joy and love every step of the way because He is with me. There is absolutely nothing that I ever have to endure on my own. He is with me! He promised to never leave me. He helps me, provides for me, protects me, listens to me, speaks to me, showers me with gifts, makes my life complete and more fulfilling than I could have ever dreamed! That’s why I walk with such joy in my heart because I’m never alone!

“On that day you will realize that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.” John 14:20

“As the Father has loved Me, so I have loved you. Now remain in My love. If you obey My commands, you will remain in My love, just as I have obeyed My Father’s commands and remain in His love. I have told you this so that My joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”  John 15:9-13

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of this age.”  Matthew 28:20b
