Heavenly Father, my heart, mind and soul are prone to wander. Even when I sit down with the intentions of spending quiet time completely devoted to You…even when I am writing to You—which helps me stay focused on You, my Lord God Almighty, the One who gives me life, joy, peace, purpose and love beyond comprehension. Lord, I am so incredibly grateful that You love me anyway…that You know my weakness and understand my desire to spend time just with You. What a joy to set this time apart to attempt to focus more fully on You. Please forgive my wandering heart and mind. I need You more than I can express. I even need Your help to love You in the way You deserve.
I fully believe Your thoughts never leave me—although I will never comprehend how You can be there so completely and intimately for each of us at the same time. You created us with the capacity to love You and others more fully though we are so easily distracted, and far too often we are not content to simply sit quietly with You. If we can learn to overcome our wandering hearts and minds, and learn to be still and quiet in Your presence—we will be so richly blessed. I want to bless You, Lord, with my full attention.
You never leave me or wander away from me. You will always love me more. It is
my desire to love You with all my feeble heart, mind and soul. I have
discovered the more
I set this focused time alone with You, the more I grow in my love for You. I’m so glad You understand me better than I do. You love even my humble attempts to love and honor You. How can I ever thank You for wanting a true relationship with me so much that You sent Jesus to die for my sins so I can come freely to You—any time or anywhere–today and for all eternity.
Lord, like the good Shepherd You are, pull me back when I am prone to wander. Help me to be still and listen to Your voice above all the clamoring voices of this earth. There is so much trying to get may attention. Help me keep my eyes—my whole being focused on You. Thank You for being patient with me as I grow in being able to rest in Your presence and love You the way You love me.
“O Lord, you have searched me and You know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways.” Psalm 139:1-3
“How precious to me are Your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with You….Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:17-18, 23-24
