Good Friday Prayer Watch

Friday, April 10, 2020

It is our deepest prayer that this Good Friday Prayer Watch will draw You closer to our Heavenly Father. Use this specific time to set aside just for Him. The world has been almost stopped by this pandemic. Maybe it is time for us all to stop, be still and know that The Lord is our God. We know that as we draw close to Him, He will reveal Himself to us. He said that when we seek Him, we will find Him! Let this be your time to seek Him!

When we have set up the Good Friday Prayer Watch before, a special room was set up for people to pray in without disruption. One of the things that has made the Prayer Watch special is shutting yourself up away with the Lord with no interruptions. Because of the Pandemic, it will be up to you to set aside a specific place where you can be alone with the Lord. It might be in your backyard, in your bedroom or by the lake. Print off or take the prayer guide with you. Let others in your family know not to bother you…or do this as a family with no talking between one another. This is between you and God.

Feel free to stand up and walk around to pray, or kneel before the cross. You may want to take communion with our Lord. You may want to pray out loud or sing! You may want to lay flat on the floor on Your face before God. Or all of these! It’s OK! This is precious holy time you are devoting just to be with your Lord.

Have a very blessed Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday and an ever-growing prayer life with our Lord!

Praising a Victorious Lord!

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” Psalm 100:4

(Try to leave all worries, anxious thoughts, and distractions behind as you enter His throne room to have meaningful time with Him)

Father, I praise You for Jesus rising up out of the tomb and giving me…

Father, I praise You for the power You have over all things including…

Father, I praise You for Jesus dying so Your Holy Spirit can live in me. I’ve seen the Holy Spirit work in me by…

Father, I praise You that Jesus overcame the world and assures me I can, too! With His help, I can overcome…

I praise you for who You are! You are…

Confessing our sins

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 (This is done through Jesus’ death on the cross)

Father,

I confess I do not personally come before You enough. Forgive me for choosing other things over You, like…

Forgive me for bad attitudes I’ve had towards…

Forgive me for the bad thoughts I allow to take resident in my mind like…

Forgive me for placing other priorities before You, like…

Forgive me for being proud when I…

Father, forgive me for not taking time to love and honor You. Forgive me for taking Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for granted and sinning against You by…

Thank You, Father!

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

I am so grateful for Jesus Christ because…

Thank You for these people that I love—who You put in my life…

Thank You for these things in Your creation…

Thank You for the ways I’ve seen You work…

Thank You for these things about my family and friends…

Thank You for these things in the past…

For these things in the present…

For these things in the future…

Thank You for the gift of prayer and the chance to come to You at any time!

Serving Others

“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.” John 13:14

Father, help me to humbly serve others as Jesus did by…

Heavenly Father, show me whose “feet I can wash,” or who You want me to serve and how…

Lord, who in my family can I serve better and how…

Father, who at school or work can I serve better and how…

Who at church can I serve in Your name and how?

What about neighbors, Father? Who do You want me to serve?

Praying for our land

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior…” 1 Timothy 2:1-4

Father, You specifically say that You will heal our land if we (Your people who are called by Your name) humble ourselves, turn from our wicked ways, pray and seek Your face. Father, forgive me for judging everyone else, when I should be on my knees before You, asking You to cleanse me. Father, forgive me for not praying. Forgive me for not praying for my country. Father, I pray that You show me how to live in this land but belong to Your kingdom…

Father, I pray for those in authority over me-
in my home…

In my church…

In my work…

In my city…

In my state…

In my country…

For those who serve (military, medical workers, first responders…)

Praying for Others

“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16

Father, I know You hear every single one of my prayers. I know You love others even more than I ever could, and that You desire the most perfect things for them. I want to lift up these people before You now…

Family members:

Church family members:

People at work or school:

Neighbors:

Those affected by the COVID-19 virus:

People I know who are lost because they have not yet surrendered their life to You:

Help Me, Lord!

“Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place.” Psalm 28:2

Father, these are things I really need help with…

Father, help me stand strong in the area of …

Father, help me come to You more often by…

Father, help me to trust You with…

Father, help me to lay down my life in this area…

Father, I also want to pray for deeper things. Help me grow more in wisdom, truth, love, knowledge of You…

Father, Help me be faithful to You by…

Not My will, but Yours!

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:42

Father, thank You for Jesus, who was the only One worthy to willingly take my sin and the sin of the whole world to the cross out of love for You and love for me…

Father, help me as I struggle to do Your will and not mine in the area of…

Father, help me to remember my struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual powers of darkness. How is Satan trying to tempt me right now…

Who is Satan (my real enemy) trying to make me think of as an enemy…

Father, thank You for the overcoming power of Jesus Christ who leaves the Holy Spirit to help us fight our battles. Thank You for helping me stand strong against…

The Light of the World and the Salt of the earth

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. …” Matthew 5:13-16

Father, it’s hard to believe Jesus calls us the light of the world and the salt of the earth! Show me how I can be that this week!
How can I shine out with Jesus Christ in my home?

How can I bring Your holiness to my work and school?

How can I bring hope to my neighbors?

What specific ways can I be light instead of darkness in my church?

How my thoughts, actions and words bring light to the world?

Father, You are the Light! Help me stay filled with the Light by…

In Jesus’ Lap

“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” John 1:12-13

Father, You say I am Your child. How can I act more like Your child?

Lord, You came so we would know how much we are loved. Remind me to crawl up in Your lap when…

Father, thank You for making me in Your image. Help me turn away from the worldly image I try to portray and become more like You by…

Father, You have many children and they are all precious to You, including the ones that are hard for me to get along with. Help me see this person the way You do. Help me see them in Your lap…

Father, help me love, honor and reach out to Your other children by…

Listening

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:27-28

Forgive me, Lord, for listening to too many other people, books, media, peer pressure, and information instead of consistently being still with You and waiting for You. What can I give up to have more time being quiet with You….

“Be Still and know that I am God!”
